Inflammatory Bowel Diseases consist of Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease. In recent years, we have seen a rise in Crohn’s disease throughout Kerala. These patients presents usually with loose motion, bleeding per rectum, weight loss, abdominal pain etc. In children, there may be a problem with weight gain. Most of the time, they will have a stunted growth. When compared with ulcerative colitis, crohn’s disease has more problems and more complications. All these has to be on regular follow up and treatment. IBD needs lifelong treatment. There are new treatment modalities now available which can fairly control the disease. The reason of increase in IBD is probably due to westernization. But there is no clear cut data regarding this.
